The tiny Cambridgeshire village of Bottisham has a population of barely 2,000 and is situated about 6 miles to the East of Cambridge. More importantly it is some 6 miles from racing’s headquarters at Newmarket. Given all of the open fields that surround the village, and the plentiful supply of horses, it is not surprising that races were held at the village. What is surprising is that records suggest that the only meeting was held in 1735 when the card consisted of two races, one of which was for galloways.
